This player is the most reliable and good sounding players I own. I have some higher end Denons also, but this one has outlived them all and sound just as good. It's my main player since I know I can always count on it, it's played every single thing I've thrown at it. And for the sound it delivers, it's still kind of hard to justify getting anything new right now. I'm gonna use it until the wheels fall off, and as far as I'm concerned I've definitely already gotten my moneys worth. I don't find this player harsh at all as another reviewer did. Compared to my similarly priced technics SL-PS700 for example the Denon sounds less harsh to my ears. This is a great player that can be had for little money!

this cd player should be mid/high level of the past denon production, but it exibit a sterile and empty sound, like harsh
music is reproducted with detail but no body.
if you put it in more revelating situation maybe very annoying

This player was hard to beat in that price range.
the sound is still very balanced, beautiful midrange,
defined high and bass very nice.
convenient variable output.

Bought a faulty one that frequently did non read disc after insertion.
The scanned copy of the service manual is incomplete and the pages are out of order, so I was really sceptical on fixing it.
Some TLC, lens cleaned, a look for faulty caps. No luck.
Decided to read the manual (AKA: RTFM).
Bang: It has a microcontroller that, in service mode, perform full test and calibration for focus and traking. Now is perfect, it read all the cd I put in. Both original and recorded.

The sound is nice, a little veiled against my reference, a Marantz CD10, but, considering price differences (600€ / 10€), I do not bother.
It is now in my hobby room, playing.
P.S. His remote is an old, old design, but volume control is really useful
