The Denon DCD-1500 is a very well built and very good sounding 2nd generation CD player with two RCA outputs (fix and variable). Please note: The variable output can only be changed using the remote control, so try to get one including the remote. The volume control at the front is for the headphones only. Runs fine since I bought it.
A cheaper alternative is the Philips CD 473 (1987, 3rd generation), which I'm using in the same setup. While the Philips feels cheaper, the musicality is on par and it has a digital output (coax) as a bonus.
My favourite CD player on this setup is the Philips CD303 (1984, 1st generation). This really is a tank with a disc holder that can knock you out. I don't know what Philips did, but this player always makes me smile. If there is a noise in the output, change the two capacitors in the PSU.

Purchased my DCD-1500 NEW back in '85 or '86. I modified it's analog section with high quality electrolytic caps, polystyrene film caps, 1% metal film resistors and high slew rate op-amps. It still plays discs to this day on it's original laser and it sounds every bit as good if not better than anything you can buy today. Not only does this machine sound good it is built like a tank. When you hold this unit in your hands you can tell you are holding a solid, well built, audio component. Like anything else DENON used to build back then.

I Purchased a DCD-1500 several weeks ago from a second hand store. It is in great physical condition and works perfectly. I am VERY impressed with the sound. This unit out performs my other Denon players that were produced in the early to mid-90's with many more times over sampling and higher bit converters. The Burr-Brown PCM54K DAC as well as the design / construction of this unit produce some of the best digital audio I have heard to date. I am running it into a late 70's USA made Phillips receiver to Klipsch floor standers and a powered Polk sub. The sound stage, channel separation and even frequencies are quite impressive and it play's CDR's like a champ as well. Highly recommended. I really enjoy this unit!

This will take the place of honor in the main setup. These were top of the line in their day for DENON, and CD players.

well built, good sound, last forever? got it for nuts, previous owner damaged the rca's, easy solder job

re: DCD-1500
I would love to know how fixed the RCA jack as I have a Onkyo P-304 preamp where the outer metal part of the RCA output jack in missing on the left output. It still seems to work fine and the cable still fits over the remaining plastic part and seems secure.
