Really good sounding Amp. The sound when using the bypass direct channel can be described as sterile and very very dry. The Dynamics are almost insane. When using tonal control and loudness you can make it warmer as you are used to from Denon. I only use loudness when i play at very low volumes. What really stands out is the attack on Piano's and the detail in lows. The bass sounds very open and you can easilly hear that this amp is a Beast. If compared to my DIY Tube amp(the best I ever heared) the Denon is quite good but not as smooth and relaxing to listen to. I would not call it tiring but it could be much better.. Im hoping Adding more capacity in the power supply will solve this problem. I bought Mine for €79 but I needed to readjust the Bias and clean/lube all potentiometers. After doing the repairs and adjustments it was a very nice surprise to have such a beast for such a small price. Some People Say Nelson Pass designed this amp. But Nelson is still alive and also active on the forums. He says he never designed anything for Denon. Maybe Denon just used some of his patents like the opto-coupler idea. I'm not sure.
It does not get very warm but it still needs about 20 minutes to warm up and sound better.. If your speakers can handle a vast frequency range and you are using high definition source material this amp can easilly cope with it. It even has MM and MC phono stage. So if you are a Transistor guy. This is a very great amp. Rated 8 out of 10. There is still room for improvements. But i'm very critical. 8 out of 10 means its probably better than 95% of what people around me use in their living room.
