re: Fisher 125 AM/FM receiver with turntable

My Fisher 125 AM/FM receiver with turntable is producing a constant hum (loud). This was a hand-me-down, does anyone have any advice for troubleshooting a solution? The ground is securely connected where the manual says it should be...

re: Fisher 125 AM/FM receiver with turntable

The [electrolytic] filter capacitors in the power supply have dried out and are no longer filtering; they will have to be replaced. If you don't know what they are, they look like rather large, round cans situated somewhere near the power transformer, and they will have something like XXX MFD XXX V[DC], where "XXX" is some number. This is not a difficult repair if you have just a bit of soldering experience. Just make sure that you observe the polarity (+ / -) of the replacements; if you get them backward, they become large firecrackers when you apply power.

Thank you so much!!! My soldering experience is minimal but I have knowledgable friends to put on the task :)
Thanks again!
