I also have a Sansui and a Marantz vintage receiver, but none matches the powerful, solid, clean and detailed sound of my Harman Kardon HK-730. Just like everybody else mentions here, the sound is just amazing and it outclasses other overpriced vintage receivers and modern stereo components.
If you buy an HK-730 and is working properly, you wont be disappointed, it is that good, that sounds is much better than more expensive vintage receivers out there!

The king of receivers.

Much like the 430 Twin but with more power and clout. All the vintage units should be recapped and gone through by a tech. After that you have performance that most receivers and amplifiers today (2017) can't touch.

Quality parts mean Quality sound. Today's receivers with electronic boards with processors and microchips can't compare. The 730 Twin brings huge dynamics, clarity and unbeatable channel separation. This unit will shame many other so called top brands that cost 5-10 times the price.

Just got a fully restored 730. Recapped, LEDs (correct, so it looks right). Amazing. Beefy but also clean and detailed, definitely not dull. That 40 watts beat the crap out of a lot of modern stuff. Great retro fun!

One of the best receivers ever. Huge sound, much bigger than 40 watts would indicate Easy to match with various speakers. Have used it with Klipsch Cornwalls and Dynaco A25's. Great fm section as well. Sold mine once and regretted it. Won't happen again.

Recently acquired an HK730 and was quite impressed with the sound capabilities of this receiver. Hooked up to a pair of vintage Klipsch Heresy speakers @ 6 ohms, I cranked up the volume to the max and the sound was clear, with no distortion. I've decided to have it completely gone over by a service tech. It's a keeper!

re: 730

Have had many and still have many vintage 70's receivers and amps. Have been using my Marantz 1060 for the longest time because of the "warm" sound .. UNTIL I got my hands on a 730. Not sure what is , maybe twin mono block sound but it's much better than any receiver I have or had.. sure I have quite a few with more watts but really don't need the power for the rooms I used in. These are under the radar right now until enough word gets out how good these really are - I never knew. That said , I would highly recommend grabbing a 730 if you can get your hands on one you will not regret.
