A well built machine. As every other, it can do with an overhaul every 40 years or so. Very good tuner section, maybe 40 Watts per channel is a bit low, but it can still pack a punch with the right speakers.

Utterly beautiful receiver dogged by problematic power switch, peeling veneer, dead FM. When working, sound is rich & strong, with plenty of bass and a robust 'loudness' switch. Some units suffer from a complete lack of FM sound. Most R-series will need their power switches cleaned and rebuilt to function. Brown switches on face look cheap but are durable and well-made. Examples frequently still for sale, unlike rare 380R, 390R big brothers. Outstanding amplifier section when working properly and new wooden sides can be fabricated to excellent effect. Build quality not as robust as other early 70's Japanese gear.
