Great BOOM-ER of the 80s. Powerful machine with great BASS experience and a very first surround impression back in the 80s.

I agree, a good all-round sound, unfortunately, no tweeters (just blanking plates) to give more clarity to the high end. The weak point on this unit are the tape decks, flimsy plastics and a single motor tasked with everything means lots of wow, flutter and general malaise. I have my father's Hitachi DE-99 deck and from that I know Hitachi were capable of true cassette greatness, alas here, Hitachi cheapened the decks to hilariously bad levels. Give the deck something like a boy solo from King's College Choir and he'll get a free vibrato and tremolo... I did replace the belts in mine, they had turned into slime. I did the repair from sentimentality as I've had it from new (late 80s) and we've been through a lot together :-)
