These are fantastic sounding speakers. Very clear with excellent mids and highs. The bass is tight and fast, not boomy at all. They are a sealed enclosure and even though they sound very good on my 65 wpc receiver, they were outstanding on my 150 wpc system. I think they sound better than my friend's Infinity QB's which have essentially the same size woofer/midrange set up with the primary difference being his rectangular EMIT tweeter vs the EMIT-R on the Reference Fives.
I also like the soundstage these put up. I can close my eyes and place where the various musicians are sitting. All in all, a very fine speaker which kind of flies under the radar. I bought my pair used for $250 and thought I got a fair deal compared to what else I saw for that price.
