Finally got me one of these to go with my Control1Xtreme set. After a refoam it performs like a champ delivering rich fat bass that is very well balanced with the 1Xtreme's natural sound. It can go very loud for it's size, without any rattle or other bad sounds. It just works. There is a filter inside, connecting the top speakers to the outputs of the SB1 leads the signal through a 300ufd capacitor which might not be ideal. I tried connecting the 1X in parallel with the amp and the sub and this improves the iffiness of the cap filter. The system as a whole does move to a more boom-rich sound. Good for parties perhaps?
The JBL Control SB-1 is the logical choice if you own a pair of control 1 speakers and want more bassresponse. This delivers. It gives a good, balanced and responsive bass without being overly loud or too much boom. Unless you want to, of course.
If you find one, be aware that it most likely needs refoaming. All JBL control series utilizing the c1003 woofer exhibit foamrot after 15 - 20 years. Some even earlier. It's not that hard to refoam them but getting the drivers in and out of the cabinet is a pain.

re: Control SB1

Yesterday I bought a JBL Control SB-1. On the back it says: "system impedance 4Ω". In the description above it says 8Ω. Can anybody help me out?

re: Control SB1

According to the catalogue, when the Control SB1 is used with it's matching satellite speaker SB1, the combined impedance of the loudspeaker system is 4 ohms
