JBL L112

Description

The L112 is JBL's most advanced bookshelf loudspeaker system, a three-way design featuring wide frequency response and exceptionally low distortion.

A new high resolution dividing network gives the L112 superior transient response, and the mirror-imaging of the stereo pair offers a stable, accurate stereo image.

The combination of a new high frequency dome radiator, a powerful midrange driver, and the low-distortion SFG low frequency loudspeaker give the L112 state-of-the-art bookshelf speaker performance.

These speakers are still absolute top performers. Just supply them with a raw power and they will make you happy. I've heard many speakers but in terms of sound and vintage look, these are my number one at the moment. I drive them with Sansui Au 710 (EU, identical version of AU 717) and simply this is very good set for tape, cd, phono & more. Clean warm Japanese power and JBL sound. Some people claim that model JBL L 112 is the best among company's home monitors lines ever. I have checked few before I bought them, like L 100, L 96 and in my opinion, L 112 is far better. I don't like L 100 at all. L 96 lost in my opinion also A/B comparison with 4312 which I used to have but 4312 are not as good as L112. I am sure that I will not sell them ever.

The L 112's were advanced speakers at the time of their production in the early 80's. They are a fantastic performing speaker rated up to 300 watts but with a decent 89 db efficiency that appealed to rock and roll music fans mostly, but played everything quite well. The foam surrounds on the woofer are known to degrade and had to be replaced every 10 -15 years. These continue to be sought after as valued vintage equipment and still perform well in todays market of goods and in good/ partially refurbished condition sell for $800-$1400 US/pr.

re: L112

I will recomend all of you a professional amplifier that sounds better than most amps, yes a professional amp and is the Crest CA-12, if you have a passive preamp like my Mccormak Micro Line Drive set as passive and the Crest gain set to 40x with this speaker you are going to meet nirvana.
To get a more extended and controlled bass you will have to pay a lot of money for a Krell or Mark Levinson amp, trust me.
Buy it used in good state and forget what people says, this amp can put any speaker to sound louder and bigger cause of it's punch and controlled bass thanks to it's giant damping factor.
This was the last best speaker JBL produced, along with the L-150 which was almost the same speaker but floorstanding.
