I have a 5030u same amp different radio, recapped and upped values it loves bigger caps changed all 2sc458's (lots in here). I have to say its as good as anything Luxman, Pioneer, Sansui or Trio made in the 60's. What a wonderful sounding Amp and the Radio is to die for the best Tuner, it's in daily use its a stand out unit.

I bought this JVC 5003 in Germany in 1969 and it still works.. I have had some problems with scratchy Volume and Balance controls, but have cleaned them and they are now fine once more. I have a manual for it but have been unable to find it lately. I will scan it when I do find it. The only other problem I have with it is a broken Sea Control knob which I intend to fix.

re: JVC/Nivico 5003 - "scratchy volume and balance controls"

I too have a Nivico 5003 (used to be my father's). It's been sitting in my garage for many years, and I decided that I've got to put it to use or get rid of it. Dusted it off and connected it, and it's great! But the volume contol makes a loud scratchy noise when turned.

PaulCo mentioned that he cleaned his and they are fine. I took the lid off mine and had a brief look, but didn't see any dirt or dust. What exactly needs cleaning, and how? Any advice?

On the bottom of the volume pot you will see two gaps. Warm the pot up with a hairdryer to loosen the dirt then spray with contact cleaner in the gaps and turn the volume knob hope this works.
