This thing seems as though it will last a lifetime. I bought mine 2nd-hand around 1993. To this day (2017) it has been as good as ever, with regular use all this time at a guessed average of at least 10 hours a week. (Make sure you blow collected dust and fluff out every so often.)
In the mid '90's one of the light globes that illuminate the display wore out. The unit still functioned but I soldered in a replacement from an electronics shop and the display has now worked ever since.
There was a period of around 12 months where i had not used it (I think 2013 or '14) and when I started it back up there was a loss of sound from one channel. After 15 minutes or so of operation it came back to life and has never failed once.
It doesn't have a terribly brilliant powerful modern sound, with extreme richness that amps have nowadays, etc. But it is entirely adequate for producing crisp and strong sound and, if set well, can appreciably compete with/out-compete many general systems you commonly find people using in their homes today.

Clear/bright, neutral/warm, precision bass, effective, good stereo and depth. I really like this guy.
