Nice receiver from JVC, an underestimated brand from this era. This one sounds very similar as his big brother, the R-S7. I own both of them. Solid build quality. Clean clear sound, good bass and clear treble.

re: R-S5

Clean look, solid performance and reliable. It's 27 wpc are understated. For a no frills receiver it holds it own with the usual suspects.

re: R-S5

I hadn't expected to find it before Christmas, but I finally found it and in very good conditions. No maintenance yet and it has a fine stereo sound with proportional bass ad treble. At the moment it's working with a pair of 4 ohms bookshelf speakers and is doing really well. The build looks and feels really solid with a firm front panel and with very well distributed shiny silver knobs.
