TD-V1010 Review

This is probably the best of JVC's later decks. Build quality is superb, with copper shielding, OCC wiring, and a heavy anti-resonance base. The playback circuitry is contained on a separate board to prevent interference. It uses a discrete input circuit too, unlike lesser decks that feed the signal from the head directly into an op-amp.

Sound wise, it gives a pretty dry, low-distortion signal, which my not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you like your cassettes to sound like a digital recording, this one's for you.

One thing to note: it lacks 3180uS EQ in order to improve low-frequency response, going all the way down to 10Hz! As a result you'll hear exaggerated bass on playing tapes made by other machines and likewise hear less bass when playing a tape made on the JVC on a machine with 3180uS EQ.
