Magnecord 728-4

The 728-4 Magnecord Professional incorporates the very latest advances in stereophonic and monophonic recording techniques.

Quick, straight, slot-loading and inter-locking push-button controls permit instantaneous selection of desired operation with safety and reliability. The tape is automatically lowered from the heads during rewind or fast forward, thereby reducing head wear to a minimum. High speed control permits cueing during record or fast forward with the tape gate in the cue position. Record interlock minimizes danger of accidental tape erasure.

A two-speed metering capstan drive system produces a timing accuracy of better than 1 part in 600. This is assured through integrated design of supply and take-up torque motor tensioning. Differential brakes provide smooth, gentle handling of tape at all times. Front panel switching provides for half-track or split stereo operation at customer's option. Also, an additional head for quarter-track stereo application is available on special request.

A cover protects the head assembly and tape position indicator, yet provides quick access for tape editing, and head cleaning and alignment.

Separate record and reproduce amplifiers permit simultaneous playback. Two VU meters, one for each channel, are provided to monitor record, playback and bias levels. Bias current control is provided for maintaining optimum recording conditioning at all times.

Speed and equalization are selected by front panel switches. Equalization is industry standard NARTB.

The unit is contained in one Magnecord carrying case when intended for portable use. Removal of the front cover allows complete access to all operating controls. The case, when removed, will allow complete access to all internal mechanism.

If it is desired to mount the unit in a standard rack, an optional rack mounting adapter may be procured from your franchised Magnecord Dealer. When mounted in a rack, sufficient clearance must be allowed for the reels which extend to a width of 21-1/2 inches, outside edge to outside edge, and extend 2-5/8 inches above the top of the front panel.
