I picked up a 2270 recently and the sound is excellent. A little dissapointed in the phono section. Seems to be lacking punch. My 2235 has more bottom end but the FM and Tape sections are good. Even the digital sounds good through the Aux. Any thoughts or experience out there on this?

Recently acquired a 2270 that was in need of clean-up. The dust and smoke residue is now cleared up and all the pots and switches received De-oxit.
Hooked it up to some old KEF 203 speakers that I had lying around and I was absolutely amazed!!!
Never had a really good stereo set up before, although I heard many multi-buck systems in the past. This set-up will never go to Ebay or Kijiji. I am just loving it . Now to resurrect and service the old TT and get the vinyl out of storage.

Got this 2270 in for a re-cap from the original owner. He loves this receiver and can't wait for me to breath some new life into it.
Thank you for the service manual and schematics.

Can only compare it beside a 2245, 2220, and 1060 here. The 4270 is by far the best sounding. Running it into a 150 watt power amp and really enjoying it!!

I bought my 2270 with wood case March 31,1973 and paid $560.00 from Don Jones Stereo in the Village Shopping Center in Spartanburg,S.C. I just recently replaced a power amp transistor and cleaned the pots and it is still putting out super sounds. It was one of the best decisions I ever made!

The Marantz 2270 puts you so close to the Music !!

re: 2270

I've had a 2270 for about 10 years, when I got it from the original owner. It needed TLC, all the potentiometers needed to be cleaned up, new lamps and the gyro-touch tuning needed to be re-threaded. I use it every day on my desk with Bose 101 book-shelf speakers driven by a high-quality DA converter card in my computer.

The sound was "soft" but the receiver was still very robust, potentiometers needed cleaning again and I could tell I had some capacitor problems as the performance varied during the day.

Chris Ready in Boothwyn PA just rebuilt the 2270 for me: LED lamps, re-capped, bunch of new transistors, cleaned to be "like new." Boy, does this receiver sound amazing now! Deeper sound, quieter idle, clarity that wasn't there on the highs (new caps certainly helped). Well worth the investment for the next 40 years of joy...

re: 2270

Can you give me a ball park on what Chris charged you? Also, if you have a good number to reach him.

re: 2270

Did you get a response for information on a tech to rebuild your Marantz 2270? I'm looking for one myself.

re: 2270

I have had a couple of these receivers over the years and they just plain sound amazing. The 2270 makes music sound huge through just about any speaker. My present 2270 has an interesting history. Like in that old ad in the 70's, my 2270 survived a house fire! I was just going to toss it, but decided to plug it in just for laughs and see the sparks fly. Well? to my amazement, the crazy thing fired up. Took about 2 minutes to come out of protect, but when it did, it just played it's little heart out. Since then I have replaced several capacitors and such as a general rebuild, and cleaned it up really good. Now I have it on my night stand in my bedroom and am just using it again and enjoying the rich sound this receiver is noted for. I have other Marantz receivers, (2238B, model 22) but the 2270 just plain sounds better. Something about this model. I can listen to it all day without the usual ear fatigue I get while listening to most other receivers.

re: 2270

Wonderful site..... Thank you for the manuals you have let me download. Ken

re: 2270

You know I have known this receiver for almost all of my life. It has gone from owner to owner and has been used in so many different ways. Now since people have gone into the digital age, they forget how good the sound is.
Don't get me wrong I have computers, but, the big but, some things cannot be improved on.
Thanks for the manuals.
I'll upload some things I got.

re: 2270
