Marantz 2285

The Marantz Model 2285 is an all solid state receiver incorporating the innovative design and unparalleled technology that have made Marantz famous in the audio component industry.

The 2285 features a sensitive FM tuner, a highly selective AM tuner, a low distortion preamplifier, and two direct coupled power amplifiers on a single chassis, while retaining a flexibility comparable to that achieved using separate components.

The FM tuner utilises a MOSFET front end, ceramic IF filters, and a phase locked loop multiplex decoder.

The AM tuner features an advanced integrated circuit and ceramic IF filters for high selectivity and sensitivity.

The amplifier sections permit the connection of two stereo pairs of loudspeakers, a turntable or record changer, two tape recorders, stereo headphones, and an auxiliary source such as a TV source.

The 2285 also features a variable turnover tone control and front panel dubbing jacks.

This review is for the 2285B. I have three Marantz receivers, the 2275, 2325 and the 2285B. I like them all. The 2285B with silver face plate looks really nice. The B model has 94 wpc and can drive efficient speakers well. Manufactured in the late 70's, my 2285B is now 40 years old and all original. That shows how well built and dependable they are.

re: 2285

Just got my 2285b and I'm humbled by the sound of this amplifier. As I also own a 2252, I can tell you that twice the RMS wattage is twice the bliss and then some. There are two hi-pass filters which take the edge off the treble in a most subtle way reducing any listening fatigue. I cannot turn this unit on without getting completely drawn into the listening experience. Running through Bose 6.2 4 Ohm, and wow do they sing with this amp. No matter what volume I put, it sounds absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, I had to spend rent money and then some, but I think worth it, as I have not seen one in the classifieds in almost 6 months of looking. I arranged the money and bought it within an hour of listing. I haven't felt bad about that decision even though I need to hustle now, will update!
