Bought on EBay for £138 which probably sounds way too expensive. However, it was still in it’s original box and is like new (appears to be unused). My particular model is finished in black and blends in nicely with the power/pre amps l have. Was it worth the high price l paid? Hell yes! The EQ140 is a fantastic EQ and gives a massive improvement to the overall sound quality by just cutting the mid range (especially around the 1000hz settings) and then just by slightly raising the deep bass/high treble (yes, set the EQ sliders to the familiar ‘smiley face’ shape). I know that it is very risky buying electronics over 30 years old that have electrolytic capacitors in their circuits
(especially if they have sat around unused) as it can cause more problems than if the equipment was in regular use (just Google the ‘shelf life’ of electrolytic capacitors, for example). Guess l was just very, very lucky because the unit works a treat. By the way, the Signal to Noise ratio in the original manual that accompanied my Marantz EQ140, states: S/N 90db and NOT S/N 110 as stated
in the above Technical Specifications? However, l can report that whichever is the correct spec, the EQ140 is as quiet as the proverbial church mouse in operation. Build quality is also second to none too. Highly recommended.
