Short version: You get what you pay for. $2700 new.

Long version: (502 w/out phono boards):
External: Pretty case and nice simple easy to read green led display, 1db volume steps and readout make repeat volume easy. No mono switch. Gain and display name for each input configurable. Comes with nice msr remote.
Internal: 502 has dual mono boards, main amplifying devices are Analog devices opamps. Larger toroidal transformer and many more small caps on the PS board than 501
Sound: More transparent than the 501 (which i believe uses the signetics 5532 opamp) and noticeably more bass otherwise an ok performer.
