Nikko NR-715 - a real "sleeper" to be sure!

Recently, my son found this receiver at a garage sale and decided $10 was a good price. I agree! This turned out to be a steal! After some cosmetic cleaning to remove surface corrosion and various stains, I then cleaned all of the pots and the tuner with electronic cleaner. First power up after everything dried out revealed that the left channel was popping and had a nasty hum. I suspected a bad ground on one or more of the transistors. After re-flowing all of the leads of the transistors (4 in a push pull arrangement), I tested this again. That was it! Both channels played fine without any hum or noise. This has some great bass and the treble was very high and crisp.
I highly recommend this receiver. I'd like to find other models or even amps to try out.

re: NR-715

Although not a famous brand, the overall sound surprised me.
