The Onkyo Integra A-8500 was my very first higher-end amplifier - I bought it in the late 80's and it served me up until about 2000; after-which, it was put into a long slumber until 2019.
Recently, I awoke the old Onkyo...It required some cleaning of the pots and extra attention to the speaker relays as they were causing the channels to drop out.
I have to say, after 19 year sitting idle, it still sounds great. It's a well built unit, the transformer is generous, the capacitors higher quality - mixed with Nichicon Muse in the phono stage and elsewhere...I will say the amplifier is very gutsy & clean. It will drive the most demanding speakers without breaking a sweat. Being discrete in nature, the circuitry is well laid out and uses no op-amps anywhere...just like in the old days. It has a typical mosfet sound, but it is relatively neutral in the upper registers - no overly bright sound signature like you'd expect from a Japanese manufacturer. Sometimes, it lacks a bit of the micro-dynamics at lower volumes, but it more than makes up for it when you decide to take it out for a spin.
A certain recommendation when it comes to 1980's audio.

The A-8500 is labelled to handle 4 ohm loudspeakers. Also, being of the Integra series, the amp should meet the needs of the hifi enthusiasts.

This amp has very neutral sound to it, some might even say the sound is flatish in the low tones. Still, the sound is very pure. Apparently, sensitive loudspeakers would help to get the most of this amplifier.

Soundwise, quite alright. Also, the wide range of audio sources is alright, for instance the two CD-player inputs. And the phono [turntable] input switch between MM and MC cartridges is of good thinking. The quality of the audio source switches, could and should be better: contact problems are an issue.
