re: TX-88

I repaired one of these for someone earlier this year. It had a fusible resistor open and a shorted cap in the standby supply. Also, some caps in the protection circuit had become leaky (electrically). Anyways, since I own some decent test equipment, I figured I'd take some measurements. Both channels tested the same. The unit produced 82 Watts per channel, both driven into 8 ohms at .003% THD+N 1kHz. If we take the noise component out, the only harmonically related components were about 0.001%! The 19+20kHz IMD test resulted in the 1kHz difference being 105dB down or about 0.00056%. Very impressive. It has the best measured performance of any amp/receiver that's come to me for service so far.
I never had time to seriously listen to it, though.
