Onkyo TX-DS595 is a very good sounding older receiver. Despite the somewhat modest specifications, it produces a very clean, transparent sound and has plenty of power to drive most speakers. The channel separation is also pretty good.

One of the neat features of this receiver is the Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), which helps accurately reproduce high-resolution digital recording for an improved signal to noise ratio and delivery of power peaks.

Overall, this is is a great buy for under $100 used, especially if you have transparent speakers.

I love this receiver. I have had it as my main A/V receiver for several years. The sound is clean and the controls and set-up are quite easy. This has the classic and fast response Onkyo amplifier sound. They use big caps and big feedback resistors for a responsive sound that makes for a big sound-stage and depth. The Burr-Brown DAC's have never left me wanting more...they are excellent! It has plenty of inputs and standard for the time with component video inputs and Dolby Digital and This amp will definitely open your ears to the world of hi-fi and leave you wanting more.

The bad parts...the remote is great, but I have now gone through two and are now using a universal remote. The Logitec one works great! Although the amp is clear, it is not very powerful. It can be cold and analytic at times, but always detailed. The phono pre-amp is pretty meh, but it is there. A feature lacking on many receivers of its time. And there is lack of a pre-out to upgrade to a more powerful amp.
