re: Pro 12

got the belts but do not manage to get the frame out of the cabinet.
I have removed all screws and have tilted the right hand panel according to the manual but the case will not come off...

re: Pro 12

Have one of these in my workshop at the moment. As you would expect the belts are nothing but black goo and I am working on removing this from the mechanism. I had to soak the tape counter in meths to break down the stuff and at the same time the right hand tape hub needed the same treatment. I am working on the main motor and the main capstan to get the mess from these before I try to install new belts. Its a shame as this is an issue with EVERY Philips and Uher and Pioneer reel to reel tape deck that I have ever worked on as well as a vast number of cassette decks and some video recorders and CD drawer systems too. The cause is lack of sulphur in the final mix of the rubber which allows it to return to its liquid latex state but with the added disadvantage that it contains all the other nasty content which results in belts, idler tyres, pinch rollers etc, into something akin th old black Bostic glue from the 1960's.
It is difficult to do much about the machine until the mechanics are repaired at which point the electronics can be tested properly. So hopefully when I have it all clean and dry I will be able to get to grips with the electronics if it isn't working of course!

re: Pro 12

Hi,
I am in the same boat over here :-)
I found the goo at the tape speed shifter and have cleaned it with alcohol and contact cleaner.
The knob to choose the tape speed was completely stuck. Now it is moving again and I have ordered a set of belts.
I can see where the tape counter belt goes but where do I place the other one?
It is hard or almost impossible to see in the service manual.
Maybe you can help me.
Did you manage to get the Pro12 working?
Best regards from the Netherlands,
Freek
