Pioneer CS-99A

One of the largest of all Pioneer speaker systems, the CS-99A will add extremely dynamic and natural sound to your home music system.

The unit combines a huge 15-inch woofer, a 5-inch cone type midrange, 4-inch cone type mid-range, multi-cellular horn type tweeter and a pair of dome type super tweeters for new highs in faithful reproduction, with the cone type speakers featuring Pioneer's novel free-beating cone paper.

This is a unit to use with big power amplifiers, for it accepts up to 100 watts of maximum input power.

And with all this performance, the CS-99A still maintains a wide, flat frequency range, from 25 to 22,000Hz, and helps to make your music system sound better than you ever thought it could.

CS 99A - May be the one best Pioneers from the 1970's. Was the envy of many. 15 woofer, 5 way system. Nice full range speaker. Beautiful wood cabinet and exceptional grilles. 100 watt power rating.
Still a desired speaker, especially for vintage collectors.

After saving up $400 to buy a mint pair of Pioneer CS-88a speakers, and bringing them home, I found a pair of CS-88a speakers for $100 with a JVC Quad receiver (3 days later). I must say, I'm not disappointed with either. If you like full sound, with lots of bass, the CS-99a is perfect. If you like great midrange, the CS-88a is best. With the CS-99a, you will never need to refoam. Gone is my digital stuff. I sure hope my wife doesn't insist on me selling one. How to choose?

re: CS-99A

Update: Ended up selling the 99A speakers. What a mistake! Luckily, I just found another set in beautiful cabinets where someone had hooked up the woofers incorrectly and sounded terrible. Paid scrap price for them. All I did was inspect the crossovers (which looked mint) and remove the woofers, which I tested with an ohms meter, verifed no rubbing of the cone or voice coil, pointed the terminals downward in the cabinet, and hooked up the wires correctly (blue wire goes to red dot). If the terminals on the woofer are pointed upwards, the + terminal sits too close to the + terminal of the midrange. That was the problem with these (magnetic/electrical interference). Now these sound great and give me much better bass than my 88A's. Great speakers !

Pioneer CS-99A Speakers

Thanks for the manual. I'm hoping I won't need it but you never know. I think it was 1976 when we bought our pair of Pioneer CS-99A's and they're still going strong and in pristine condition.
