I have a pair of these that I absolutely love. They are my favorite speakers. A couple pointers:

1. Replace the crossover capacitors and clean the attenuator pots before you judge their sound. That goes for any speakers this old. The caps go bad and make them sound midrangy.
2. They sound like trash on modern-ish (post 1980) amps with high damping factors. These speakers are well-damped internally, and hooking them to a newer amp with a high damping factor absolutely kills the low frequency response. They are made to work best on older amps with low damping factors.
Hook these to a 1960's or early 1970's tube or solid state amp with a damping factor of 10-30 and you will not be disappointed.

I have mine hooked to a 1966 Sansui 500a tube receiver and they produce just about the crispest, cleanest, most detailed and realistic sound I have experienced from any speakers or stereo, modern or vintage. Bass response is just fine. Their frequency response is listed as going down to 35hz but they will go lower. No subwoofer needed. Their sensitivity is pretty high, so they will make an older low-power amp sound very loud and powerful.

Cabinet and driver quality is top notch. Pioneer speaker cone and surround materials hold up exceptionally well with age. These have no foam surrounds to rot.

These speakers can be multi-amped with an external electronic crossover network or used with their own internal crossover network. They have connections for both on the back.
