One of the best tapedecks from the '90 infact the late '90 so it's a good chance that heads and mech are in very good shape.Typical Pioneer's sound. Highly recommended.

This deck is phemomenal!
Quite simply, it is the best cassette deck I have ever heard - by some margin.
Physically it is big and fairly heavy and rather bland looking.
The finish is flawless. It will win no beauty contest, though.
The mecanicals are smooth and almost silent in operation.
The sound quality is where this deck scores.
The sound is natural and balanced across the whole spectrum. It also goes to higher highs and lower lows than any other deck I've had.
It is very quiet when it should be.
I am astounded everytime I listen to it!

re: CT-S830S

It is now 2020 and I have just re-discovered a Gem.I have not played cassettes for something like 20 odd years, but recently I have re-introduced my Pioneer CT S830S player into my hi-fi system. It stands up very well being compared to CD,hi-res digital players (Plenue/Pioneer) and LP,s,in fact I would rate it equal in clarity, spatial separation and emotion to all these other formats. At the time of it,s inception it was considered one of the best cassette players at its price point especially paired with the PIONEER A400.
