This was THE BEST Cassette Deck I've EVER had the pleasure of owning. It was my dream Deck for years before I could afford to get one. Once I finally did, I was on Cloud 9! This thing recorded Cassettes with the same signal clarity and Signal-to-Noise aspect ratio as Compact Discs! That was precisely why I kept a Cassette Deck in my vehicles and refused for the longest to 'upgrade' to a CD Player (like everyone else was doing). My Cassettes sounded EVERY BIT AS sharp, clear, crisp & clean as anyone's CDs AND my Cassettes were MUCH MORE DURABLE, TOO! If you can get your hands on one of these in good/very good condition, please take care of it and appreciate it, knowing that you now possess possibly THE MOST technologically advanced Dual Cassette Deck ever available to the general public (but little known of by the average consumer). ????????????????

This machine produces quality sound way beyond expectation.
The auto noise-reduction system works really well and FLEX adds sparkle to poor recordings where needed.
Well recommended.

re: CT-W504R

Well,
Wow !!, what a pair of glowing reviews.

Ummm.. even before reading these glowing reviews, I've taken the plunge and purchased one of these 504R units.

I've been perplexed however at the reviews attesting to its superior sound as this model does not contain the Dolby S noise reduction of the higher models like the 703 & 704. Furthermore the mpx filter has no defeat button so that whenever the dolby is engaged, the mpx filter circuitry reduces the frequency response on record to a limit of only 16kHz rather than the ... 18kHz or more without the mpx filter. The mpx filter is of course defeatable from within the deck's circuitry, but without the mpx button, it is always switched on with dolby on, making the recording capability less than many decks on the market.

However, knowing this; I bought this unit because it has auto noise reduction and I am curious if this can be adapted to multi tape decks(such as CT-M6R) which would benefit even more than a 2 well deck.

To be truthful, these units get derided from the various forums, however i've rather taken to them with the full understanding that head gaps of a two head machine is always a compromise between the record and playback head gaps even with the inability to monitor the recording in real time and particularly if one with dolby S is purchased, then the minimum specification for implementing dolby S is guaranteed to be adhered to, not least of which is low wow and flutter and low distortion with good head alignment albeit with rotating heads.

Its a shame that these did not combine the auto noise reduction(504) with the auto ble(704), which, along with music search and auto reverse of older models would make a brilliant compensation to the infinitesimal sound improvement the three head players would have over these 2 head units.

The convenience afforded by these magical auto features makes these decks a delightful instrument for music listening.
