Great sounding amp - Had this until very recently, paired with the Pioneer PL-15D, what a good looking pair.

re: SA-500A

Just inherited a SA 500A. Sounded awesome for 10 mins until left channel output went kaput. I think it maybe a problem with the heat sink left output transistor (compound?). Is there a DIY solution to this?

Thanks for any thoughts?

re: SA-500A

There's an internal fuse that could have blown. It's 1.2A fast acting. If it's blown, try a 0.5A fast blow fuse with the volume at minimum. The lower value fuse is to not stress the transistors too much if they are not the fault. These units from this era have bias adjustment controls that open and could cause this. Check VR1 and VR4. They should be <100 ohms. If they are ok and the fuse isn't blown, you'll need to check some voltages. Before I type a book, I'll wait for a reply about the fuse status...

re: SA-500A

Hi lm3875, thanks for response. Fuse appears ok. Internals in good shape. No dust or residue of any kind. Really appreciate your feedback.

re: SA-500A

Have you worked on electronics before? If so, if you have a DVM, I can give you some things to test. Of course this means operating the unit with covers off and plugged in. Are you aware of the hazards of doing live testing?
