Very capable little amplifier featuring Pioneer's beautiful silver face layout. Spartan and efficient at 25 watts per channel this little guy will drive most speakers thrown at it. A real classic and a joy to look at especially when paired with the TX-6500 tuner. Don't hesitate to add the SX-6500 to your collection.

Bought one on ebay. Did not power up. Brought it in for servicing and I’m told it has a catastrophic failure. I read everywhere that these things just don’t break and just need servicing. Very disappointed.

Fantastic little Jap amplifier with smooth clear sound.
Owned since 1978, still goes strong.

re: SA-6500 ii

Just bought one on ebay and the repair guy tells me that it has a catastrophic failure. Can’t be repaired. Has anyone ever heard of this? I read everywhere that this amplifier is a beast and “does not break”. I know that it needs servicing from time to time. Didn’t expect it to be trashed the minute i received it. It never powered up!

re: SA-6500 ii

Why did you rate this <1 star because you got a broken unit from ebay?

re: SA-6500 ii

Do you still have the amp ? if you are in NYC area I can help you with repairs. I am sure something can be done even if there is "catastrophic" output transistors failure. PM me

re: SA-6500

Not entirely related to the SA-6500 Which I have, but I am looking for an Ecualizer of the same period and that is also 380 mm wide. Does anyone know of a Pioneer Ecualizer in that width ???

pioneer sa-6500

i am looking for sa-650011 service manual.i do beleive it is 100 watts per channel?.is the sa-6500 the same?.

re: pioneer sa-6500

You can download the service manual from the above "Download" section.

Don't go by the unit label

There are erroneous assumptions about the watts per channel based on the power consumption label on the back of the unit. That is not the same as the watts per channel output of the amp, which is correctly stated as 30 for the II version and 25 for the original version.

The SA-6500 II is 30 watts per channel; the 6500 is 25 watts per channel.
