Bought used with mandatory jb-100 step-up transformer. Requires a integrated amp or power amp, as it ist connected to the speaker output via the jb-100.

Reviewed here connected to the pioneer sm-3000 power amp. Earpads were completely detoriated and so exchanged for offical beyerdynamic replacements, as the pioneer ones are no longer obtainable.

The are compared with the stax combo STAX SRM-727 II and SR-L700. While the bass ist not as voluminous and may not go as low as the stax, it is dryer and more direct. The overall tonal balance is great and improved a lot with the new earpads. With the original ones, mid and lowbass was lacking. Bass volume ist still very dependent on the positioning over the ears.

Mids and high are very very good and are at the same level as the stax combo.

Low level detail information however, together with the sm-3000 are even better then the stax. Every little musical detail ist transported. Overall, I prefer it to the stax.
