I've had my 3600 since new. I was in high school working part time for minimum wage ($3.35/hr.) and I drooled over the bigger beasts. I bought this at GEMCO and have had it all this time. I then bought a CT-F750. Boy I wanted the 1250 but.... it was out of reach. I still have that one and serviced it up myself with all the right equipment and tapes. Anyway, about 199? I picked up a Kenwood A/V for surround and stored this away. Several months back the Kenwood was pulled from service with an issue which I fixed but I pulled this beauty out and put it back into service and it sounded so much better. A tube like warmth that you just have to experience to understand.

Now, all cleaned up, in the bedroom, Pioneer DT-500 and some trash recovered Infinity towers in immaculate condition is what puts me to sleep each night.

It is a simple but absolutely great sounding receiver that does pack a little punch and gives a taste of what tube audio was like.

I'll never let this go!

You'll find a lot of naysayers commenting on this amp, but it's a stunner. Recap it and let it sing. Gobs of clean power and all discrete (no awful powerpacks/ICs in power stage). Plus, the fluoroscan is AWESOME and cool. FM tuner incredible. If you get one, don't sell it.

After being and Audiophile for so many years and buying expensive equipment, I decided for the Pioneer SX - 3600. In 1984 I bought it in JC Penney for $82.00. This has been my workhorse for so many years and still going strong. Pushing a pair of Bose 901s (not the ideal sensitivity from Bose) plus a pair of Pyle Pro super-tweeters (27000 MHZ max) and finally a Polk Audio Sub Woofer rated a 400 watts. The little engine that can rattle my condominium to the rate of eviction!! Thanks Pioneer for the amazing specs on this little jewel and for re-instating me in the ranks of audiophiles.

Very nice sounding and looking unit. With some higher sensitivity speakers this little unit sounds fantastic. Seems to be really well built. Of course over time the push buttons can be an issue. Check that they are working before you buy unless you are ok with working on the push buttons. Enjoy the sound of it.

Although it is only rated @ 35wpc it delivers a crystal clear signal to two pairs of 100w 8ohm speakers. Not underpowered at all given the minimal THD. In my opinion one of Pioneer's most under rated receivers.

SUPER SCORE !! :) :)

Just got one for $74.99 plus $20 S/H off eBay, now hopefully It'll get packed well enough to survive the transit!

re: SX-3600

A nice price for a working one, and good luck! I have owned three and they were like the Coupe deVille of the old school Pioneers...the next year everything changed...

Kind of like Olivia Newton John in Xanadu and then singing Physical after that...but I forgave her and learned to love the next Pioneer models as well (except those nasty cassette decks ie. CT-7R). Pioneer got better too.

re: SX-3600

I've never worked with the SX-3600, but I have used the SX-3800 very extensively. I love the "digital" FM system. In fact, everything on the the SX-3600 seams to be very ahead of its time. A lot of receivers from this time period didn't even have LEDs, and this one has Several Digital screens.
