12 sweet watts! My first restored old unit. Great receiver, good phono section. Use this one at work in the office. A pair of minimus 7s are a nice pairing for this one in a small room.

The SX-440 is a rich sounding receiver. the phono preamp does a nice job when paired with my Thorens turntable. The Aux input works well when connected to an iPhone for music. Overall a nice sounding stereo for the price.

Just did service and recapping on this. If you get one with distorted sound , check 0.5Ohm current limiting resistors in output stage R5,6 and R8,9.
Beautiful rich sound , nice looking receiver worth recapping.

Fantastic look. Found one in mint condition. Stunning looks. Sound was ok after cleaning Electronics. But its a low Power receiver so use efficient speakers. Not hifi nirvana but a collecters item to show off!!!

re: SX-440

These lower powered Pioneer amps are seriously underrated. The phono stage is consistent with pioneers cartridges, detailed and dynamic. For the price range a lot of fun. I tried restoring the dial light bulb holders (pink isolator material keeps breaking off). In the end I gave up and wired up LEDs, have had no issues since.
