The best Amp I have ever owned, running with a proton 1100 preamp. The clarity is divine, ran against a dbx MK3 ii, and the bass is tight and deeper, the mids and highs have outstanding clarity and balance.

Sounds so clean and accurate, it's the most comfortable amp to listen to. Fully recommended.

re: AA-1150

I have to agree with above review.

I owned The AP-1000 pre-amp and AA-1150 power amp, from new, for 3 years.

For the money (IE: within my budget at the time), Nothing I heard, came anywhere near to the sound quality of these.

At the time, Proton were linked to Nad in some way, but the Protons to my ears were far superior.
and at the time of my purchase I heard both (+ others) in an a/b listening test in my own home with my own TT / speaker setup (AR legend / Ortofon MC10super / homebrew TL speakers using three Seas drive units per cabinet, crossovers from falcon acoustics).
The protons were more detailed, even and effortless, without a trace of long term listening fatigue.
highs, mids, and lows handled equally well, and with speed, weight and control in the low end.
rock solid 3d imaging, overall very open and natural sound.

To try and express the level of detail in words is very difficult, but here goes.

when a drummer hits the high hat, with most amps I heard a "dishhhh" sound.
with the protons I heard "T.isss" I could actually tell it was a wood stick hitting metal, it was totally clear and transparent.
That's the DPD working, that's what it does (transient response speed).
and it's something I will never forget.

At a lowly 50 watts per channel, they were not designed to "rock the kazba", but at normal home listening levels, these things could rock your world, and put you right there, in front of the stage.

And they looked so damn good too !
