re: STA-860

I had/have one of these, got it in almost completely new condition and it surprised me when i heard it, very all around powerful warmth to the overall sound from the amp, wjen I got the amp one channel wouldnt play because of an unknown reason come to find out after id popped the top and bottom off itd had a bad coupling cap in the input stage, but after i had fixed that and resoldered an few areas due to suspected cold solder joints it was impressive, lows are very natural and slightly punchy to a degree and the mids are anout as untouched as they could be leaving mid low and mid high frequencies to also become very naturally reproduced and untouched, the highs are natural and bright slightly with a certain sound of crisp that kinda gives it a signature sound but sound amazingly like its supposed to with it having that as a good affect even more so that i noticed that this receiver can actually put 80-85w rms into a speaker before most people would even realize distortion. Its not rated that. But the meters do go to 80 as peak and id say rms and peak go well beyond that. Its also a pretty heavy and pretty receiver low noise floor. Nice soft but hefty feel at the flick of the switch. Nice glow from the dial above and backlight is just right and power supply is quiet and its built well. Its a powerful amp and overall its a powerful receiver.
