excellent power house

Sturdy, powerful amp with a clean sound. Looks great, and can take a bit of abuse. Love the controls. It's been dependable.

The 90w RMS pc is a conservative figure. Furthermore a slew rate of 170v/uSec means this amp can respond very quickly to transients.

The AU-719 manages to be both an incrediby refined and powerful amplifier which few, if any, sub £1000 modern amps could match.

re: AU-719

I have been able to spray contact cleaner on an AU 517 Volume pot through the very small slits and successfully the fluid reached the area mostley that required to see it.

Wd40 was also applied later and it finished the process rather well.

re: AU-719

My AU 719 has a falure on the volume button, which you can hear on the speakers. How does the volume button get off and how do I get rid of this falure?
Thanks for your awnser

re: AU-719

Unfortunately it sounds like You have to replace the volume-potensiometer, because
the potensiometer are enclosed and You cant reach it for cleaning.

Of cause You could always try to unsolder the potensiometer then force-off the cover
and clean the resistor-lane. But normally this fix only last for a short time. The
potensiometer is probably worn out and need to be replaced.

re: AU-719

I appreciate having access to the service manual for my AU 719. I am the original owner, purchased this beast in 1980.

When I turn on the amp, the on-light just flickers and it will not power up. Any fix other than taking it in would be appreciated.

re: Thanks

power protection circuit is not allowing amp to come on. possibly from noisy cap, shorted output circuit, etc... you can bypass the circuit by disabling the error looping circuit. I have model au-717,so circuit maybe different than mine. on mine removing the base lead on TR602 disables most of the power protection circuit.

Flickering power indicator

I bought my amp in Okinawa Japan in 1979. You are correct, Paul, it's a beast. Mine also developed this problem, and the only thing i've found wrong is that three of the four big filter capacitors leak. They are the 12,000 Mfd. can capacitors near the transformers.

The Test:
I removed them from the amp and gave them a charge of 24 volts and read each of their voltages about ten seconds after dis-connecting from power. Then I charged them again and waited an hour to test their voltage. Three of them had much lower voltage than they had with the ten second test. They should not show any loss at all.

One of these days I'll return this project to the bench and finnish the repair, whenever I put the money out for the capacitors. I like to do things once so I'll replace all 4 of them.

Service Manual AU719

Dear Friends at Hifi Engine !
You are doing a great thing, indeed.
I am happy today when found the service manual of my AU719.
Thank you, danke, terima kasih, arigato... -:)

I rebuilt the power amp section with MOSFET final stage but keep the input stage using uPA68.
It is a new different pcb but with 100% same dimension as the original.
The original 'power amp card' are now safely kept considered as a treasure vintage.

Best regards,
