Sansui AU-9500

By far the most refined and advanced of all the AU series of amplifiers, the AU-9500 takes the art of sound reproduction to a new high with its uncompromising emphasis on tonal quality, operating ease, reliability and appearance.

Assembled with painstaking care and with only the latest solid state circuitry, this integrated amplifier adopts the ultimate in amplifier design - an all stage, direct coupled OCL pure complementary parallel push-pull circuitry that delivers 75 watts per channel in continuous output into 8 ohms, 20 to 20,000Hz, both channels driven, with total harmonic distortion of less than 0.1%.

For the audiophile who refuses to accept second best, the AU-9500 offers a distinctive level of quality and perfection. From Sansui, the audio components only specialist.

re: AU-9500

B7,B9 voltage is misprinted.

re: AU-9500

VR803 should be 200 ohm in lieu of 200k shown on schematic.

re: AU-9500

What was the matching tuner for this amp?

Sansui AU-9500

How would AU-9500 sound as compared to the older AU-999 or the newer AU-9900, AU919?
Could any Sansui fans share some of their listening experience on this?

At present, I am holding 3 Sansui receivers namely 2000x, 800, and 210. Is any of these receivers sound alike to 999, 9500, 9900 or 919?

I like my Sansui receiver vintage sound. It has that tube-alike kind of warm sound and such an ability to connect you to the gist of music, a trait all too rare in modern amps.

Alongside the mind-blowing Sansui vintage sound, I am pondering if I should get myself a piece of AU-9500 since this model is regarded as one of those Sansui great classic amps. How much of further improvements that I could expect to get from this AU-9500?

Appreciate your view, if any.

Tone control board transistor substitution

The transistors on the tone control board are all but impossible to find, and they are a common source of noise at zero volume. The leads are silver coated, tarnish corrosion creeps through the package's hermetic seal into the die and they fail by becoming increasingly noisy until it sounds like cannons and gunfire. A fellow on Audio Karma made these substitutions to very positive affect, I and others have replicated his work and concur his results.

These are all Fairchild parts, in-stock at Mouser (and others) and cheap enough. ~$0.28 ea

2SA726R replaced with KSA992 (note: base and emitter are on opposite sides from original)
2SC1313R replaced with KSC1845 (note: base and emitter are on opposite sides from original)
2SC634A replaced with BC546B (note: base and collector are swapped from original, use sleeves to prevent shorting)

re: Tone control board transistor substitution

use 2sa872,2sc1775 com. pair for all small signal tr.
i ve done this over 10 units, all found satisfactory by the clients.

re: Tone control board transistor substitution

Great research.
Thank you for sharing the info.
The substitutes work perfectly.

Thank you

I was doing research for a friend, never expecting to find what we needed. Thanks again.
