Sansui QRX-6500

The QRX-6500 is an impressive instrument, specifically designed for those who demand no nonsense professional quality in a home 4-channel stereo receiver.

Its broad range of unique features, unlimited power, flexibility and superb tonal quality make it the finest 4-channel receiver Sansui makes today.

First of all, the QRX-6500 is a complete 4-channel stereo control center. Its functions can be divided into three major areas; the Sansui QS 4-channel Synthesizer and Decoder, the 4-channel, 280-watt integrated amplifier section, and the super-sensitive stereo FM/AM tuner.

At the heart of the 4-channel QS Synthesizer and Decoder section is the team of circuits which together make up the new Sansui QS Regular Matrix decoder with QS vario-matrix.

This, with the built-in discrete 4- channel auxiliary inputs and control capabilities, adds up to total 4-channel stereo versatility.

The standard Sansui 4-channel Synthesizer/Decoder Control, a five-position rotary control located on the front panel, enables the selection of two different QS Synthesizer modes (Surround and Hall), two QS regular matrix modes (Surround and Hall) as well as the additional Phase Matrix mode for decoding SQ records.

I am not an audio engineer but i found one of these and the landfill near my home in CT. Knowing about classic receivers i had to bring it home to test. I worked flawlessly - no damage! I can say it is very powerful and very sensitive fm and so much so it is light years ahead of my Marantz 4270.

A few years ago, I got a defect QRX3000 from a friend who wanted to scrap it. I repaired it and was amazed by its qualities. I wanted to have more of this and started looking after a QRX 6500. Really hard to find, but finally I succeeded. The unit was not defect, but needed som restorations. I bought 4 pcs. of B&W 685 S2 speakers and overhauled the QRX 6500. This really is a superb combination. Warm, super detailed sound that makes you forget the actual position of your speakers. I can only recommend to test this device yourself if you ever have the opportunity.
