Found one of these at a thrift shop with an $18 price tag on it. There was not a mark or scratch on it. Hey take a chance ! I got to the counter and asked if I could return it if it didn't work...the lady said NO...no returns. I offered her $10 (what a cheapskate eh !) SOLD. I took it home hooked it up to my Old SONY STR-DGR810 receiver and a couple of Klipsch speakers and SONY subwoofer which were collecting dust and voila a (somewhat new) stereo in my workshop. Works great, sounds great to my ear. BONUS It also came with a Mozart CD which the previous owner forgot to remove.
I realize audiophiles will turn up their nose at this cheap consumer grade CD player, but hey I love it, and thats all that matters

re: CDP-215

Agreed. This cdp sounds right. Free flowing top to bottom with plenty of detail musically and openness. I just sold my Marantz CD-6006 to go back to this Sony. 1994 seems to be a good year. I've owned many Sony es CD players but this simple model seems to transcend the complexity of the higher end models. Less in the signal path. Pure and simple.

re: CDP-215

Actually i've compared it to many different Sony models and there is something 'right' about the sound.
