Very nice player. The KSS-151A mechanism reads discs in a flash, also CD-R (provided that you've burned them at low speed and used suitable media, that is, non-coloured disc face). Some of the functions (programming, custom index) are very handy and the big display is wonderful. Nothing beats this generation of Sony players when it comes to the display! Soundwise I haven't really compared it to many players on the same or higher level, but I'd be surprised if it didn't hold its own against most modern players at the same level (it is an ES player, after all). The digital outputs offer the possibility of hooking it up to an outboard DAC, but I've felt no need to do so since the built-in Burr Brown DAC does such a good job. Spacious, natural sound, very lifelike. Good tonal balance, definitely not overly bright (nor overly warm). A highly recommended CD-player, with proper care it should last a lifetime, and in case it starts acting up, it's worth repairing!
