First of all, let's be realistic, this ain't no piece of Hi-Fi equipment.
That being said, for it's category is one of the best mini portables Sony had to offer in the early 90s. The tape heads are still playing fine after 25 years, nice bass and good highs, unexpectably good for such an entry level apparatus. Had to change the belts, but nothing too complicated. The FM has normal sensitivity, but on the AM it really shines. I have the version with long wave too, and on that band I am catching a station better than on a Grundig Satellit (okay, the Satellit is older and has no ICs, but still impressive), better than all the radios around the house. Sony sure did some good ICs in the old days.
There are also some minuses: no separate bass and treble controls, just one tone button that seems to add or remove the treble and not affect the bass. Also, there is no led for FM stereo, quite strange, since there is a led for power on... if there is sound out of the speakers, you'd think people would know the set is on, but oh well.
Other than that, a nice quality set from the good old days. I would recommend grabing one from a thrift store, you won't be dissapointed !
