re: STR-7045

Well, picked up this baby last week and she cleans up real good. Almost identical to the early generation STR-6055 (except for different output power transistors and a few minor changes in a couple of resistors in the main amp portion).

Sounds even better than my STR-6055 ! I modded the input caps (upgraded film caps - with higher capacitance for lower bass response !) on the equalizer, tone amp and main amp boards). Also, the bias was set at 3 times the normal level (150mV instead of 50mv !!!) - quickly adjusted bias and balance. Now the unit sounds wonderful. Better than my reconditioned 6065 even. No primitive integrated circuits in the phono (equalizer) and tone amps which plagued the 7055 and 7065.

re: STR-7045

A really terrific receiver. I think the key word is synergy. Some efficient speakers sound really, really good with this amp. I have many speakers, and 8 ohm work extremely well. Anything else, and I’m having a hard time getting the best sound!

re: STR-7045

This is just a great classic receiver. Easily as good as it peers from Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui.
Nothing real fancy just good quality vintage sound. Build quality is superb.

Sony's can usually be picked up for a lot less than the others I mention up above too.

re: STR-7045

Thanks for adding the Service Manual! I just recently picked one up and I agree this receiver is really nice. Great build quality and a great overall sound. An interesting aside, the STR 7045 is nearly identical (if not the same) to the previous generation STR 6055.
