re: STR-AV880

There should be a watch battery visible if you remove the front cover

re: STR-AV880

can anyone tell what module stk he uses or something to buy such a device and would like to know if he has for sale.

re: STR-AV880

Any owners know if there is a battery inside this beast prior to me cracking it open? I got a beautiful one (condition wise) but my FM radio presets don't hold any time the power is turned off.

re: STR-AV880

I don't recall Sony ever using batteries. The usual method was a super capacitor also known as a double layer electoytic. These are typically 0.047F 5.5V caps. Yes that is Farad and not Micro Farads. They look like two watch batteries stacked on top of each other inside shrink wrapping and soldered to the board near the tuning microprocessor. They do fail after several years and I suspect that is your problem.
