troubleshooting flashing 'PROTECT'

When I power on my STR-D515, (no speakers attached or any other devices) it starts up, then a flashing PROTECT shows up on the front display. Great, the receiver goes through its checks and balances and determines there is a short circuit somewhere. All of the fuses are intact, and of course must be a hundred plus various circuits and components. Is there a way (combo of pressing buttons etc.) to have the receiver give me a better idea of which circuit/component is creating the error ? If not, where do I begin to isolate which circuit/component is fried ?

troubleshooting flashing 'Protect'

Since your talking about fuses already checked, speakers and every thing else, also unplug, i will assume that you know what your are do'ing. Am i right, if not don't do the following actions, leave it to an electronic serviceman...

I had a look, i hope you to, to the service manual up-Δ₯ere. I'm french, this is to explain my English writing.

I did remark, that it should be possible to leave the main board in, being plug, and functioning since it will eventually be the main board that will tell you the fault is gone and unplug the link, flat cable or else that link the others to it. This of course is done, of course the amp unplug, and even then, beware that the big and sometime not so big condensator(s) have some or even huge energy store (accumulated) within themselves. 'dangerous' 'DANGER'

(One way to somehow, limit or eliminate that energy, would be for you to unplug the amp from the wall, will it is still 'on', 'here read the switch still on', this in some occurrence, make the condensator responsible to keep the unit alive, for a bit of time, and then they don't suffice any more, since they discharge, in trying to keep the rest alimented.

(You will, YOU MUST notice that the light in front, will dim, before they go out completely.)
Take notice of that phenomenon, since it will demonstrate to you, that what I'm taking about is really happening in the case of your unit. If you don't see what i have here describe, stop. The amp, don't keep it's link with the condensator, then the condensator don't discharge, THEY ARE A DANGER TO YOU. Remember you are there, i' am not., It's your hand that go's in there, not mine.

When this is done start unplugging the peripheral boards, one by one and in between you replug the unit in the wall to see if the fault is still present. DON'T FORGET TO RESPECT EACH TIME THE SEQUENCE DESCRIBE IN THE PRECEDENT PARAGRAPH OR YOU SURE WON'T LIKE THE FEELING. Finally the one that will eliminate the fault, hide on himself 'the trouble'. To be clear, you unplug the board one by one, you never replug any of them, since the trouble might be cause by a combination of them. Two boards may cause the problem.
HEY! it's not a god idea to chat at the same time, take care of the baby, or go have a discussion with your love one in between two actions. You must keep focus on what you do, and think of the next step, is't a small routine, a dance if you like, and you can not afford to miss a step. Learn the routine, and keep with it. If you don't have the time, to do it tonight, to many distractions, don't start it, chose your moment...It's a bad idea to do it when you are alone, in the house to, you might not have the time to call on your cell for help.

Recapitulation: It's dangerous, but if you are focus on what you do, it is ok. MISTAKE MUST NOT APPEND! Play it safe, wear some gloves, don't touch the frame, in no circumstances, it is the ground. If all this make no sense to you, Don't do it...It's not every body that's got the good attitude, to work with electricity, yes electricity, ac and dc electricity, that what it is!
Keep in touch! Use your nose, to first scan the unit, once unplug, if a component have fry, it will smell, orienting you to itself, the trouble one. First: Print this and then understand it, and then learn it !

Class of this amplifier?

Does anyone know what 'Class' this amplifier is? i.e. A - D (or whatever proprietry idea in between). Cheers :)
