I picked one of these up from eBay for a mere £40 and it is the best £40 I have spent so far this year. This amp is simply amazing. The 90 watts of power deliver incredible punchy sound and it goes seriously loud without losing the plot. I have it connected to my DCM Timeframe TF-250's and TF-275's and it drives them wild in the best possible way. I am not running them at the same time, I just used A and B to compare them. I cannot find a single bad thing to say about this. My PL-L1000 / Ortofon Vivo red sounds sensational, creating a huge soundstage that is both warm and wide. If you are on the lookout for a solid performer without a huge price tag then get searching for one of these. I am now going to go on eBay and see how many I can get so I can use them in multiple systems I have around the house.

P.S - I was using a NAD 7130 reciever and this has completely blown it out of the water and I loved that NAD every day that I used it. It even puts my A-400 to shame with ease and that is no easy task !

This UK specialities have beefed up transformers
and slightly enhanced poweramps compared to the
stuff Sony sold at the time on the continent in
the normal Midfi-Section of their programme.
However the phonosection is still not on par
qualitywise with say a TA-F55 from 1984. The
sacrifice of balance and tone controls can not
compensate for this fact. Nevertheless the 540E
is a good amp in british purist style.
