One of the best tuners ever made. It leaves my Mac MR80 in the dust. Also see Brian Beezley's or audio-ideas or hifidelityreview's reviews for the measured unbelievable numbers. There are a number of modification sites to improve the performance further. All in all, a keeper.

re: XDR-F1HD

Over time (while they were still available on-the-shelf), I bought three of these because I wanted small tuners for use as garage, bedroom, and office systems.
I liked them right away, but my main frustration was the lack of time and station memory retention. Lose power for a moment and you lose all the settings.
I ended up doing all of the mods to all three of them from the site noted below, and wow, something magic happened.
Not to just the addition of memory retention, but the sound quality of this little tuner is impressive, right up to the level of "audiophile" quality as a tuner. I paid under $100 each for my three and they're going for more now in the used market. But if you can grab one and make those mods, you will NOT be disappointed.
I actually prefer these (modified) tuners over my vintage tuners. And being HD, you get extra side channels where you can find some interesting things as well.
If you want to do your own mods, then just search "k6jrf Sony XDR-F1HD" to find that resource, and if you want someone else to do the work turn-key, then search "xdrguy Sony XDR-F1HD".
