re: TD 20

Hi, I purchased this yesterday and will get it later today. Just one question, how can I tell apart 2-track vs, 4-track versions? Is there some serials or other marks to look for?
Sorry I posted this as review at first.

Nice site

Hi All

I stumbled on this site through google as I need some help with the repair of my TD20A. It looks okay inside, but one cap is burned and the 'slow' fuse has popped. If anyone has any comment on these matters, please feel free! :-)

Tandberg TD-20A RECORD head replacement with different make??

Anyone replaced the crappy record head on this machine? mine is worn after very little use. I was thinking of getting a Studer or Akai head, anyone know what's involved? The physical replacement is not my worry, but I am wondering what needs modding on the boards? Anyone? Any help on this, and I owe you for life! haa!

re: Tandberg TD-20A RECORD head replacement with different ...

yes you can replace it with any brand provided they have the same resistance and overall dimension to fit in the mount, and also don"t forget to adjust the bias for recording and playback and you do this with test tape and test tone amplifier.

recording problem

Hello friends. I;ve just got a TD-20A .it plays fine but would only record one channel. all connections checked. I tried line 1 and 2 for input, the same issue. physically in the inside this machine looks intact. I also checked all wires and fuses.Cleaned everything frrom heads to switches thoroughly. is this a common problem? any help would be appreciated. unfortunately, I can't read schematics.
please help

re: recording problem

the first thing you should do is while the circuit board is open look for the marking record amplifier then put tape in record mode then adjust the recording level to medium then as it is recording touch the circuit board marked record ckt. then observe the meter if it is fluctuating or not if it is then the circuit is fine, then playback the recorded sound and you should hear buzz sound if not either the head is bad or the recording circuit is not working and need to replace diode or transistors parts. ok that's all I can tell you and good luck
