re: 488 Portastudio

The Tascam 488 is a very good piece of gear for the year it was released, and I think it is still pretty amazing today. I currently have 4 of these units, two are running perfect, and two are awaiting repairs. When I get done, I was planning on using the sync track function on channel 8 for these units and synchronizing them either to my DAW or to my 2-Yamaha AW4416 units that are currently sync together.
As with all the cassette format tape machines, the rubber belts, pinch rollers and take up reel wheels turn into goo after many years, and perhaps a bit of neglect. (Like leaving it in a storage place with high temperatures).
