Very good deck overall. I got mine when they were first available in 95 or so. The first one had a software glitch and Tascam replaced it under warrantee. I used it heavily for several years before switching over to PC-based workstation software (Cubase, Wavelab, AVS, Vegas, Avid, etc.) I'm now returning to using it for first draft song construction. It's a lot easier than dealing with PC software and hardware. *However, there are some glitchy aspects to these machines, mainly with the disk slot. You need to be very careful when inserting the minidisks, as the machine will report a disk error if it's slightly skewed. I've gotten away from the computer and returned to using the 564 again and it is currently stalling sporadically, probably needs a good cleaning.

The minidisk data disks (140MB) are not easy to find. I bought a good number of them in the late 90s when it became apparent that they were being phased out. The two brands of data disks that I use are Sony and HHB. The HHB disks seem more reliable. I'm always watching for the data disks on Ebay.
You can also get a 564 on Ebay for a good low price. If you need a machine to work through preliminary compositions, this is very good. Of course, the vintage TEAC reel to reels are good for this as well.

Decent four-track Minidisc recorder I got off eBay. It records OK, but the controls are all scratchy. They seem OK once they're set. This was big news in December 1996, but I don't think Tascam followed up with any other models. I'm so glad HiFiengine had the manual.
