re: RS-B40

This deck is simple but good
The sound is very open clear and also
quite lineair

The motor is somewhat sensitive for flutter
but if you manage to put some fine sinterlager oil
on the spindle it should do the job

It was sold very well and there have been
some updates as well during the time of production

I've had three of them and they were all slightly
different when I looked carefully in the cassette compartment

Unfortunately it has no cassette back light
and the MX head is sensitive for wear
So if you want to change azimuth adjustment or check , you have to be extra careful

It says 2 motors but in fact it has three
one cam mechanism
one for fast forward and rewind
and one for playing

the rubber of the pinchroller was still in good shape
even after 30 years

If I had to compare the sound with other 2 head
decks , it come quite near to a Nakamich BX-125 or
a Yamaha KX-530
So that's really good !
